Dr. William W. Li is a physician scientist, author, innovator and global health advocate whose bold vision of conquering disease by seeking “common denominators” has transformed both biotechnology and preventative health.
As CEO, president and medical director of the Angiogenesis Foundation, his groundbreaking work has led to the successful development of 32 game-changing drugs and devices used to treat cancer, halt and reverse vision loss, and speed the healing of chronic wounds associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease and aging.
Dr. Li is focused on identifying new approaches to optimize health and fight disease by exploring the body’s innate health defense systems — angiogenesis, regeneration, microbiota, DNA modification and immunity — and how they can be strengthened through interactions with diet, lifestyle and medicines. Dr. Li is elucidating how the body heals itself and this understanding is redefining health in the medical and scientific communities.
Dr. Li has testified and presented before congressional and other government panels to advance global health, and he lectures around the world before academic, government, industrial and clinical audiences. He is actively engaged in disease prevention efforts across diverse medical fields, including oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, dermatology, wound care and regenerative medicine.
Dr. Li completed his medical internship and residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and received his undergraduate degree in biochemical sciences at Harvard College. In addition to co-founding the Angiogenesis Foundation, Dr. Li has helped to establish a number of organizations, including the International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science, the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair, the Plantrician Project, True Health Initiative and the Bates–Jensen Wound Research Foundation. Dr. Li has authored more than 100 scientific publications in leading medical science journals and textbooks, served on the faculties of Harvard, Tufts and Dartmouth, advised industrial leaders across 18 countries, and given a TED Talk viewed more than 11 million times. He serves as advisor, consultant and board director to public and private companies and non–governmental organizations.
